Aldeacentenera

A whole bunch of people from Aldea set off for the annual Ruta Peregrina last weekend. It’s a pilgrimage walk from Aldea to Guadalupe, via Navezuelas. they hike over mountains, through valleys, over more mountains - madness…

Jane went along with them. There were 51 in all, but not all of the starters made it to the finish line. Frank and I went to Guadalupe on Sunday afternoon just in time to see them all round the corner of the cathedral and complete the walk. They were disheveled, and tired, but seemed pleased with themselves.

We all had a communal meal in one of the restaurants in Guadalupe. We also did that in Navezuelas on Saturday evening. They were both rowdy and noisy affairs, but happy too. The food was great and the banter was fun.

It had threatened to rain all weekend, but it didn’t. Just as we left Guadalupe, only a few hours after they completed the pilgrimage, it rained in earnest. But at least the walkers kept dry for the 30 miles of their long trek!
